PCP and Artificial Lift Specialists

Richardson Pump Service Inc. specializes in Progressing Cavity Pump systems for oil and gas operators across the Permian Basin and beyond, and when a well goes down, operators all over Texas know to call (325) 668-2226 before the production losses stack up. Based in Abilene, TX, RPS has been running PC Pump Systems in the field since 1985.

Sam Richardson and the RPS team work across the full artificial lift system, downhole PCPs, wellhead drives, VFD automation, electric motors, fluid level diagnostics, and failure analysis. When a pump fails, we can tell you why it failed, not just swap it out. We carry and service brands including PCM, Artemis, Weatherford, NETCO, SLB - Oil Lift, Martin, and SPOC, so the answer to your pump problem isn't driven by what one manufacturer happens to have on the shelf.

What We Do

Artificial Lift Services from a Specialist Shop

Every service below is something RPS has performed in the field for 40-plus years, not a line item added to look broader.

  1. Downhole Progressing Cavity Pumps

Pump selection, sizing, and installation for oil and gas production. RPS works across PCM, Artemis, and Weatherford, to custom design systems based on your volume, depth, fluid properties, natural gas, bottom hole temperature, and solids. Details make the difference to maximizing your run time and efficiency.

  2. Wellhead Drives

PCM wellhead drives are the main go to for RPS installations. From the PCM CD30, CD60, CD100 are all state of the art and proven wellhead drives for safety, strength, design, and environmental needs.

  3. Automation & VFD Controls

Variable frequency drive installation and automation retrofits using PCM, SPOC, and Martin VFD-controlled PCPs run at optimal speed, reduce shock loads on startup, and give operators real-time production visibility. The software in these VFD's can operate, PC Pumps, Pumping Units, ESP's, Injection pumps, and Compressors.

  4. Electric Motors

Electric Motor sales and service for wellhead drives and surface pump applications. Properly spec'd motors are the part that operators often undersize until a failure proves why it matters.

  5. Fluid Level Services

Acoustic fluid level testing to determine pump submergence, fluid load, and inflow performance. This data drives pump sizing decisions and catches reservoir issues before they become workover costs.

  6. Failure Analysis

When a failed pump comes out of the hole, RPS begins with a visual inspection of the rotor and stator, then scope the stator to see the damage and what caused it, and what to change on the next run. Repeat failures are expensive, one good analysis often pays for itself inside the next pump run.

Why RPS

40 Years Running PCPs in the Field

Richardson Pump Service has been in the field since 1985. That's not a marketing number. It means Sam Richardson has pulled pumps from wells that weren't even drilled when most artificial lift vendors opened their doors. The oilfield has changed. PCP technology has evolved. The core problem hasn't: operators need their wells producing, and they need someone who can diagnose and fix an artificial lift system, not just swap the same part back in.

RPS is an owner-operated shop. When you call (325) 668-2226, you reach the person with 40 years of PCP experience, not a dispatcher routing you to a technician whose background is general pump service. That distinction matters when the answer to your failure isn't obvious.

Operators with acreage across the broader West Texas corridor have relied on RPS because the alternative, a large vendor with a call center and a parts catalog, doesn't have the failure analysis depth to tell you why the same pump keeps coming out of the hole on short time runs.

Multi-Brand Capability Across the Permian and Beyond

RPS works across the major PCP and artificial lift brands. Not locked to one manufacturer's product line.

PCM
CD30, CD100, and full PCM drive and downhole pump line
Artemis
Downhole PCP systems for a range of fluid types and depths
Weatherford
Artificial lift systems and wellhead drive service
Martin & SPOC
VFD automation and surface drive control systems
SLB - Oil Lift
Schlumberger artificial lift PCP systems
Martin
Artificial lift and pump system components

Serving Oil and Gas Operators Across Six States

RPS operates out of Abilene, TX and runs service calls throughout the Permian Basin and into Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, Louisiana, and Indiana. If you're operating wells in Hawley, Cross Plains, or any county in the West Texas oil patch, the drive time is short. Operators with broader acreage positions get one accountable vendor across state lines.

Frequently asked questions

Question not here?(325) 668-2226

Ask Sam directly.

What types of progressing cavity pumps does RPS work with?
RPS works with PCM, Artemis, Weatherford, SLB - Oil Lift, and Martin downhole PCP systems. We're not tied to one manufacturer, which means pump selection is based on your well's fluid properties, depth, and production targets. Not what's easiest for us to source.
Does RPS perform failure analysis on pulled pumps?
Yes. When a pump comes out of the hole, we inspect it, identify the failure mode, and give you a written account of what happened and what to change on the next run. Repeat failures at 60 or 90 days are almost always preventable once you know the root cause.
What states does Richardson Pump Service cover?
RPS is headquartered in Abilene, TX and runs service across Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, Louisiana, and Indiana. Operators with acreage across multiple states work with a single point of contact.
Can RPS handle VFD and automation retrofits on existing wells?
Yes. RPS installs and services variable frequency drive systems using SPOC and NETCO platforms. Retrofitting VFD control onto an existing PCP system is one of the most cost-effective ways to extend pump run life and improve production visibility.
What is a fluid level test and when should I order one?
A fluid level test uses acoustic equipment to measure the fluid column above the pump in the annulus. It tells you pump submergence, fluid load on the motor, and inflow performance from the reservoir. Order one when a well is underperforming, before a pump sizing decision, or when you want to confirm a pump is operating in its design range.
How do I reach RPS when I have a well down?
Call (325) 668-2226 directly. RPS is an owner-operated shop, Sam Richardson answers, not a call center. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm from our Abilene, TX location at 1625 Key Lane.
